Biblical References

In the Bible, Ahab was a Hebrew king. His rule was marked by great prosperity and works of great architecture and art (1 Kings 22:39 and Amos 3:15). However, Ahab allowed his zeal for worldly good to overshadow his religious purity. For example, he married Jezebel, a woman outside his religion.

Literary References

Ahab was the captain, and a main character, in the famous symbolist novel Moby Dick. In this book, Ahab pursued to his death a white whale, "Moby Dick," seeking vengeance for the whale's destruction of his leg.
