Duct tape is a type of construction grade tape that comes in many different colors, but is usually silver. It was invented by Richard Drew of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company, known today as 3M, in the 1920's. It was originally made for WWII soldiers so they can keep their ammunition cases dry. It was originally green. Then, the soldiers started fixing other things with it and found out how useful it was. It got its name from how it was made, a cotton duck (which also makes medical tape). Soon it was used in the household, especially air ducts. So because of the "t" in "duct" and the air duct's silver color, it assumed its modern name, Duct Tape.
