Critical pedagogy stems from Critical Theory and postulates that the oppressed is generally held to be the student. As such, the teacher and a child should be equals during social activism.

Critical pedagogy was developed by Marxist theorist Paulo Freire, his most important work is regarded as Pedagogy of the Oppressed.
