"2.5D" describes an aesthetic whereby three-dimensional objects are camera-locked (set) in a two-dimensional plane (3D projection)[1], or less commonly, two-dimensional objects are used in a three-dimensional plane (texture animation).[2][3] Texture may also be applied to paintings and other flat images to add depth (3rd dimensional aspect).[4] Additionally, with the rise of video idol's utility of virtual avatars, avatars which appear three-dimensional but are made of several two dimensional layers classify as 2.5D.[5]
