Franklin Pierce was the 14th president of the United States. He served as the president from 1853-1857. Pierce was a democrat and a northerner known to have southern sympathies.
Prior to being elected, Pierce served in both the House and Senate and achieved the rank of brigadier general in the Mexican-American War.
Pierce died on October 8, 1869 in Concord, New Hampshire from cirrhosis of the liver.
