Jack Layton

John Gilbert "Jack" Layton (born July 18, 1950) is a socialist and current leader of Canada's New Democratic Party.

In 2006, he called for the return of Canadian troops from Afghanistan. In January 2007, Jack Layton called for a federal ban on ATM fees.

He has also called for the nationalization of all natural resources and a national pharmacuetical plan. His party only has a mere 29 seats out of 300, so most of his opinions are tossed aside. His views are so outside the mainstream that few are even willing to entertain them. His opponents jokingly refer to him as a "communist" and Chinese Canadians call him the "White Communist". They've lived under the tyranny of socialism and don't want to see the return to those conditions under Layton's regime.
