COGAT
COGAT stands for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories. It is a specialized unit within the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responsible for carrying out civilian policy and coordinating humanitarian efforts in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.[1]
What COGAT Does.
COGAT serves as the main bridge between the Israeli military, the Israeli government, international aid organizations, and the local Palestinian population. Its core responsibilities include:[2]
- Humanitarian Aid.
COGAT coordinates the entry of vital supplies, such as food, medical equipment, and fuel, into Gaza. It works alongside groups like the UN and the Red Cross to deliver this aid.[3][4]
- Civilian Infrastructure:
It coordinates cross-border initiatives and repairs for essential services like water lines, electricity, and sanitation.</ref>[5]
- Liaison:
It serves as a point of contact for the Palestinian Authority and foreign governments on day-to-day administrative matters.
