Human Rights Watch is a liberal human rights agency which was started in 1978. The United States based organization was originally named "Helsinki Watch," to monitor the Soviet Union's compliance with the human rights provisions of the Helsinki Accords.[1] Now the organization is known for its disproportionate amount of criticism of the United States and Israel.
