Clyde Tombaugh (1906-1997) was an American astronomer who is best known for his discovery of Pluto, which was recently downgraded from a planet to a dwarf planet.
Tombaugh had an interest in astronomy from a young age. He bought a Sears telescope, but before he was 20, he had built his own because he was unsatisfied with the quality of the Sears one. [1]
In February 1930, Tombaugh discovered Pluto at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Tombaugh graduated from the University of Kansas and Northern Arizona University. [2]
