French fries

French fries are a tasty food made from potatoes. They are very popular in America and in England they are called "chips". French fries are often eaten with the addition of ketchup, as many believe that this improves the flavor.
"French" fries are actually Belgian, not French. In Belgium and the Netherlands they are called frites and are often served with mayonnaise.
At the height of the Iraq War, the Congressional cafeteria served "Freedom Fries", so as not to have anything associated with our former allies in France in Congress.
