Pyrotechnics is a field of science involving the use of fire in conjunction with chemical reactions to produce a desired effect.

Pyrotechnics includes, but is not limited to:

Fireworks
Rocketry
The use of smoke for special effects
Flares such as fusees, road flares, and signal flares
Matches are a form of pyrotechnics
Automobile air bags use a pyrotechnic device in their deployment
