David Duke
David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950) is a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. In the past, Duke has run for office both as a Democrat and as a Republican. David Duke was once a Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. [1] Duke has taken an activist stance in the anti-war movement. He has stated,
- Cindy Sheehan is absolutely right. Her son signed up in the military to defend America, not Israel...In advancing this war for Israel, government and media advocates obviously couldnât get Americans behind the war by saying it was a war for Israel. They had to make up bogus reasons for the war, such as saying that Iraq was an imminent threat to America and that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. [2]
Duke unsuccessfully ran for the Senate in the open primary in 1990 against J. Bennett Johnston. Most Republicans the Democratic incumbent due to Duke's racist views. After Bob Livingston resigned from the House of Representatives in 1998 after it was revealed he was having an extramarital affair, Republicans worried that Duke would run and win the open primary for Louisiana's 1st Congressional District. However, he did not run and David Vitter was elected instead.
