Rudiments are the basic techniques and sticking patterns used in snare drum playing. They include:

Single paradiddle: RLRR or LRLL

Double paradidle: RLRLRR or LRLRLL

Flam: ^LR or ^RL

5-Stroke Roll: RRLLR or LLRRL

9-Stroke Roll: RRLLRRLLR or LLRRLLRRL
