Anorexia

Anorexia is a psychological syndrome (or behavior pattern) in which a person systematically starves herself because of her perception of being overweight. The majority of individuals suffering from anorexia are young girls.
As with several other similar diagnoses, the popular press often implies that the behavior is caused by the syndrome. In fact, the behavior is the syndrome.
