Anorexia

Anorexia is a psychological syndrome (or behavior pattern) in which a person systematically starves him/herself because of their perception of being overweight. The majority of individuals suffering from anorexia are female.
As with several other similar diagnoses, the popular press often implies that the behavior is caused by the syndrome. In fact, the behavior is the syndrome.
