The Four Noble Truths are four central teachings of Buddhism, declared by Gautama Buddha. They are:

  1. Life means suffering
  2. Suffering is caused by attachment to fleeting things
  3. The elimination of attachment is possible
  4. The 8-Fold Path is the means by which to do this.[Citation Needed]
