Prohibition was a movement to prohibit the making and consumption of alcohol. It began in the 19th century and culminated in the Prohibition Amendment, the Eighteenth Amendment, which passed in 1920. Called "the noble experiment," the constitutional amendment was repealed in 1933 by the Twenty-First Amendment.
