Nouri Maliki

Nouri Maliki (1950- ) is the current Prime Minister of Iraq. He is a Shiite [[Muslim]. After the rise of the Baathist party in the 1970's, Maliki was involved in underground resistance efforts to topple the regime of Saddam Hussein. He fled the country in 1980 and settled as a refuge in Syria. More then twenty years later, after the United States liberation of Iraq, he returned and was part of the writing of the country's new constitution.
