The author of the article was probably thinking about the Medici family in Florence. Medina is the town which Mohammed fled after being expelled from Mecca (an event known as the hijra). It is also a Hebrew word meaning "Country" or "State" and a German-style boardgame, among other things. --WOVcenter 01:47, 12 March 2007 (EDT)
