In the context of religion, the Word (or God's Word) (for American Christians) usually refers to "the Word of God", particularly the Bible or the New Testament.
In the context of American slang, "word" is often used as a term of agreement, an urban version of "hear, hear".
Also, this article is full of words, which are units of sounds or symbols intended to communicate a specific linguistic label or concept.
"Word" can also be shorthand for "conversation"; a popular English euphemism is "May I have a word with you?"
