Polytheism

Polytheism is the belief in multiple gods. This is in contrast to monotheism, the belief in one deity. Most ancient religions were polytheistic and in modern times some forms of Hinduism and Wicca are polytheistic. The trend over time has been towards monotheism, as the Christian Church has succeeded in converting many pagan and otherwise non-Christian peoples into the belief in Jesus.
