Ballistic missile

A ballistic missile is a missile which leaves the atmosphere and goes into orbit around the Earth (at least briefly). Most ballistic missiles are ground-to-ground based. Some have enough range to reach another continent; see Intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
