Martin Scorsese is an American film director noted for his compelling depictions of the US underworld, particularly with respect to his native New York.
However, his most controversial film was The Last Temptation of Christ, which attempted to imagine how Christ might have been tempted to leave the cross and lead a normal life, including having marital sex.
