He spent the 2006 season on the Dolphins practice squad and played in no regular season games. On September 3, 2007, the Patriots signed Eckel to their practice squad[3]. He say his first action in a NFL regular season game on October 1, 2007, in a game vs the Cincinnati Bengals when he was signed to the Patriots active roster[4]. In the game, Eckel was part of the special teams coverage unit[5] and also had three rushing attempts for eleven yards in the forth quarter of the game.[6]
