Pygmies are tribal inhabitants of Africa who are known for their small size. The Mbuti of the Ituri Forest in Zaire are well known Pgymies. Living a stone age type existence, they usually travel together in groups of 50 to 100 and are nomadic hunters. Pygmies are less than 5 feet in height.
The term pygmy is sometimes used in modern language to refer to one who is very short of stature. It is usually considered to be condescending.
