Horatio Alger

Horatio Alger (1834 - 1899) was the author of over 100 books for boys in which the heroes rose from rags to riches through virtue and hard work. Among some of his more popular works from that time period are:
- Ragged Dick (1867)
- Luck and Pluck (1869)
- Sink of Swim (1870)
