Jay Treaty

Jay's Treaty (1794) is a treaty that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Jay developed with England in an attempt to prevent war between the two countries.[1] The treaty included three major provisions[2]:
- Withdrawal of British troops from America's Western posts
- The establishment of a commission to settle border issues between the United States and Canada
- The establishment of a commission to resolve American losses in British ship seizure and loyalist losses during the American Revolutionary War.
Although the Jay's Treaty was extremely controversy, President George Washington pressed for ratification. The treaty was ratified by the United States Senate in June, 1795. [3]
