Pliocene

The Pliocene was a geological time period which, according to geologists, occured approximately 5 million to 2 million years ago. Scientists believe that Hominids evolved throughout this epoch and by the end of the Pliocene, Homo habilus first appeared. The end of the Pliocene was also marked by the beginning of the Pleistocene ice ages. Biologists speculate that Sabre toothed cats first appeared in the Pliocene around 2.5 million years ago.
