A Catholic is a person who follows Catholicism. Catholics follow the Pope, who is the Bishop of Rome and traditionally lives in the Vatican.
Catholicism was the only sect of Christianity from the time of Paul to the time of the Protestant Revolution. Unless you count Eastern Orthodox, Gnosticism, and hundreds of other religions.
