Charon is a moon of the dwarf planet Pluto, although some people consider Charon and Pluto to be a binary system due to the fact that Pluto is not much larger than Charon. It was discovered by astronomer James Christy in 1978, and is named after the ferryman of Hades in Greek mythology.
