Photo bias

Photo bias is a common liberal tactic of using an unflattering or menacing photo of a supporter of a conservative position to create a hostile impression in the reader.

Examples include:

  • Time magazine's cover photo of Ann Coulter, designed to make her look like a childish fool
  • The New York Times's photo (June 10, 2007) of a man with missing teeth to represent opponents of the pending federal immigration bill

It is not just a liberal tactic, however as evidenced by Conservapedia's pages on prominent liberals such as Sen. Hilary Clinton's. Compared to other 2008 Presidential candidates such as Gov. Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain, Clinton's photos are universally negative. Also, compared with Bill O'Reilly's Conservapedia page, Keith Olbermann, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart all have unflattering pictures associated with them. O'Reilly's photo is an official photo from his television show.
