Moab: The son of Lot with his eldest daughter, shortly after the judgement on Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:30-38). Moab is the father of the Moabites, who lived on the east side of the Salt Sea (Dead Sea), in present-day Jordan.
As the people of Israel were approaching the promised land after the exodus from Egypt, the king of Moab was afraid of what Israel might do to his country, although Israel had been commanded by Jehovah to not do them any harm (Deuteronomy 2:9).
