Cause

A cause in legal terminology is a lawsuit, litigation, or action. It means any question, civil or criminal, litigated or contested before a court of justice. A cause of action is typically brought by a plaintiff against a defendant, or brought as a counterclaim by a defendant against a plaintiff.
