Nirvana was a grunge rock band from Aberdeen, Washington. The band was formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in early 1988. The band first achieved mainstream success with the release of their single Smells Like Teen Spirit in 1991. Since their debut, over 60 million Nirvana albums have been sold worldwide, making the band one of the most popular non-active musical acts in history.[1] The lead singer of the band, Kurt Cobain, was often labeled as the "spokesman for a generation", referring to Generation X. Cobain committed suicide on April 5, 1994 in his Seattle home. After Nirvana disbanded, Dave Grohl of Nirvana formed the Foo Fighters, which was labeled a post-grunge band.
