Deborah was the third Judge of Isreal. Her story is told in the book of Judges in the Bible. After Ehud dies Isreal does evil again, and the Lord delivers them into the hands of the Canaanites.

The King of Canaan, Jabin, and his captain Sisera made their stand at the river Kishon. Deborah was a prophetess at this time and the Lord told her Barak, the son of Abinoam, would lead an army against Sisera. She sent for him (he was from Naphtali, she lived in Ephriam) and told the Lord had commanded him to gather an army to Mount Tabor. He asked Deborah to go with him and they marshalled ten thousand men. "An Deborah said unto Barak, Up; for this is the day in which the Lord hath delivered Sisera into thine hand: is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him."[1] They killed all the Canaanites and Sisera ran away on foot. Sisera tried to hide in the tent of an enemy, but was killed as he slept.

After that military victory, there was peace in the land for 40 years.
