Cryogenian

The Cryogenian was the second period of the Neoprotozoic Era. It follows the Tonian period and precedes the Ediacarian. The Cryogenian period was marked by two massive ice ages, one of which the Huronian glaciation may have covered the entire planet. Multicellular life did exist during this time period and the earliest animals were discovered from this period and were dated to about 700 million years ago. Multicellular life would diversify further during the Ediacarian period.
