The gorilla, the largest of the living primates, is a ground-dwelling omnivore that inhabits the forests of Africa. Gorillas are divided into two species and (under debate as of 2006) either four or five subspecies.
Attempts have been made to teach a gorilla named Koko a form of sign language, the success of which is debatable but nonetheless fascinating.
Christians believe that gorillas were created about 4000 years ago.
Scientists beileive that humans shared a common ancestor with gorillas as recently as four to seven million years ago. The Gorilla's DNA is possibly 97%-98% identical to that of a human's according to some theoretical work.
