A safety in football results when a defensive player tackles an opposing offensive player with the football in the offensive team's endzone. For the tackle behind the goal-line, the defensive team is awarded two points. In addition, the offensive player can run out of bounds behind the goal line or down the ball himself to award a safety to the opposing team.
