Acropolis

The Acropolis is the Greek term which refers to the portion of a town or city that is built on a hilltop for defensive purposes. In ancient Greece there were many city-states for geographical reasons, and there was often an "Acropolis" in a city-state. The Acropolis of Athens is the best known Acropolis of the world.
