Nuclear weapon

A nuclear bomb is a bomb with a nuclear component, that causes an uncontrolled fission reaction releasing massive amounts of thermal and radioactive energy. Nulear weapons come are capable of massive destruction due to the combined effects of the thermal radiation and blast wave created by the detonation. Radiation is actually a by-product of the weapon, not the primary destrutive force.

The following countries are known to posses nuclear weapons.

1. United States 2. Former Soviet Republics 3. United Kingdom 4. France 5. China 6. India 7. Pakistan 8. North Korea 9. Israel

The following countries are suspected of having active nuclear programs:

1. Iran 2. Saudi Arabia

The following countries are known to have once had nuclear weapons: 1. South Africa (dismantled stockpile in 1990's) 2. Belarus 3. Ukraine 4. Khazakhstan

Many other countries have at one time had an active nuclear weapons development program, but most have officially stopped research into weaponization. Any country with nuclear power capability also has the means to produce nuclear weapons.
