Dian Fossey

Dian Fossey (1932 - 1985) was an animal researcher who studied the behavior of gorillas in Africa under the direction of Dr. Louis Leakey. [1] She studied the social structure and relationships of gorillas in Rwanda starting in 1967 and lasting many years. She wrote a book about her experiences titled "Gorillas in the Mist" published in 1983. [2] Fossey was working at the Karisoke Research Center when she was the victim of an attack on Dec 26, 1985 and died in Rwanda. [3]Her life story was made into a movie in 1988 starring Sigourney Weaver. [4]
