Kenny Rogers
Kenneth Ray Rogers was born on August 21, 1938 in Houston, Texas, the middle child in a family of seven children.
As a teenager, âKennyâ sang with group, joined The Bobby Doyle Trio and was a member of the New Christy Minstrels before creating the First Edition in the 60âs whoâs âJust Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) peaked top five of the Hit Parade in 1968. âRuby, Donât Take Your Love To Townâ struck gold a year later with âRuben James,â âSomethingâs Burningâ and âTell It All Brotherâ also successful.
As a solo, in 1977 Kenny Rogers began his career anew with the million selling chart topper, âLucilleâ followed a year later by âThe Gambler.â In 1979 he dominated the pop and country music charts with top ten hits, âShe Believes In Me,â âYou Decorated My Lifeâ and âCoward of the County.â
Teaming with Kim Carnes for a top five hit, âDonât Fall In Love With A Dreamerâ in 1980, Kenny also hit #1 with his solo chart topper âLady.â Dottie West joined Kenny for âWhat We Doinâ In Loveâ in 1981 as Kennyâs solo âI Donât Need Youâ was certified gold with âThrough the Yearsâ following.
In 1983 Sheena Easton joined Kenny for million seller, âWeâve Got Tonight.â Dolly Parton and Kennyâs âIsland In The Streamâ topped both pop and country charts in 1983, staying on the Hit Parade for more than two dozen weeks.
Georgia resident, Kenny Rogers, singer, songwriter, producer and actor has won numerous awards and Grammys, continuing to record and appear worldwide.
Kenny Rogers is a 2008 nominee at the Hit Parade Hall of Fame.
