The Four Noble Truths are the central teaching of Buddhism, declared by Gautama Buddha. They are:

  1. Life means suffering
  2. Suffering is caused by attachment to fleeting things
  3. The elimination of attachment is possible
  4. The Noble Eightfold Path is the means by which to do this.
