Leicester is a city and is the county town of Leicestershire, England through which the River Soar flows. Most of the city centre was built in Victorian times, including the railway station. The station is a regional interchange.

Engineering and the manufacture of textiles and clothing are important to the city’s economy.
The National Space Centre is based in the city and is linked to the University of Leicester.
Leicester has one of the largest ethnic minority populations in the United Kingdom at about 37%.
Leicester City Football Club play in the English Championship League (soccer).
Its population is 441,000 (2004).
