Insularity

Insularity refers to geographical separation, such as that of an island, as well as the associated political attitudes that are similar to isolationism.[1] An example of an insularity is the United Kingdom, whose membership of the European Union normally would have included adoption of the euro, but the government chose to seek an opt out from being required to replace the pound sterling, until adoption was seen to be more economically beneficial.
