Populism is a political agenda aiming to favor the poor or average person over the rich or elite. The term can be either negative or positive based on the context. It is generally, though not always, favored by liberals, and is a hallmark of Marxist thought. Conservative philosophy involves propping up the rich at the subjugation of the poor.
