Fanny Hill is controversial novel. In it, claimed Supreme Court Justice William Douglas,
- a rather naive young girl ... becomes a prostitute, finds warmth, understanding and the meaning of love and faithfulness [and] within the world of prostitution ... finds friendship, understanding, respect, and is treated as a person of value. [1]
