Swaziland (officially the Kingdom of Swaziland) is a small, landlocked country, bordering South Africa and Mozambique. Swaziland is the last absolute monarchy in Africa, ruled by King Mswati III. Swaziland has two capitals; Lobamba (royal/legislative affairs) and Mbabane (legislative affairs). Swaziland gained independence from the United Kingdom on September 6, 1968. The area of the country is 6,704 sq mi (17,364 km2), and the population is approximately 1,173,900, with a population density of 59/km2.

Swaziland has been plagued by HIV/AIDS for the past quarter-century, giving it the lowest life expectancy in the world; 31.84 years for males, and 32.62 years for females. As of 2003, approximately 39% of the population suffered from HIV/AIDS.
