Dire Straits is an English rock band formed by Mark Knopfler in 1977. At a time when the popular music movement in England was characterised by punk, Dire Straits broke the mould with laid back rock yet have remained popular to this day. Reaching fame with their single Sultans of Swing the band quickly progressed with such songs as Tunnel of Love later produced the ground breaking, number one album, Brothers in Arms<ref<www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Dire-Straits-Biography/D51A556F14DC66B548256873002ECB7F/>/ref> which contained hits such as the title track Brothers in Arms and Money for Nothing.
