History

In 1884, Germany declared a protectorate over a strip of Togo's coast, and eventually spread its control inland. It was Germany's only self-supporting colony.

In the first month of World War I, French and British troops invaded, and took the capital on August 26, 1914.[1]. After World War I, Togo was declared a mandate under French and British control.

Togo became independent on April 27th, 1960.
